There was a request by a new student that we write a post providing information about Wellington. While it is impossible to cover everything, I hope this helps. So, here goes:

You can get to Pak'n'Save & Wellington Halal Meat by taking the bus :) The bus stops right in front of Wellington Halal Meat.
Extra info:
There is an Asian supermarket right next to Pak'n'Save. There is also a market every Sunday (7 am-2pm) that sells fresh fruits, veggies etc. on Willis st. It’s on the car park next to Unicomm Cumberland House. Oh, and one more thing, Turks chicken is the only halal brand that I know so far. You can get that from New World or Pak n Save.
Next stop: Clothes
You can walk along Lambton Quay or Cuba St to shop for clothes.

Missing people at home? Why not give them a call? There are a lot of phone cards to choose from : Yabba, Kiwicall, Easycall, etc. You can get these from 24-hour convenience stores like Starmart (there are a few in town). Just find one that you think gives the best rate!
If you want to keep yourself updated with the things happening in New Zealand, you can go to: http://www.stuff.co.nz. That’s where I get my news from. :P
If you are still confused about all the information above (like the location of these places), you can just type in the addresses given on to Google maps :) or another alternative is Wises at http://www.wises.co.nz.
