Potluck & Badminton

Updated : 23/07/09 @9.52pm

Salam, Kia ora, Hello!

Winter seems to be keeping more people indoors these days, but just because we're in doesn't mean we can't mingle!

The New Zealand Malaysian Society are having an event soon-ish and they've invited us to the gathering! There will be food, potluck-style, and badminton will also be played then.

The details are thus:

Date: Sunday 26th July 2009
Time: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Venue: Hataitai Badminton Hall

Click here to view/get the official brochure which you may have to bring should you be interested to attend the event.

Please note that you have to RSVP by 14th of July, and There is an entrance fee for non-members of the NZ Malaysian Society ($10). Paying this fee automatically signs you up as a member of NZMS which holds events through out the year, Malaysian-style. Perfect for your homecountry-missing needs ;)

You may RSVP via NZMS' official email: nzmsiansoc@gmail.com. Spaces are limited, so please inform them as soon as you can! :)

In order to join the badminton games, you must signup by 10am on the day of the event (Sunday). And just as a final reminder, this is a potluck event, so bring along drinks, desserts, specially cooked foods, or whatever's edible, to be shared with everyone!

Many thanks to Affendi Yahya for informing us about the event.

Regards,
WMSO Committee

"Greetings and salam sejahtera

On behalf of the organising committee, I wish to register my appreciation and thanks to all those who attended and supported the potluck gathering and badminton game. The turn out of about 70-80 people of diverse ethnicity in the true spirit of Malaysian Muhibah made this event a success. We were encouraged by the presence of existing NZMS members and many who signed up to be the new members.

The badminton tournament attracted some very talented players and the score of the some of the games was very close. The game was played in three categories: men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The young people were included to play in the women doubles.

The tournament was well coordinated by Jay Jay – a fellow Malaysian and the Operations Manager of the Haitaitai Badminton Hall. Thanks to Jay Jay and Wellington Badminton Association.

A good spread of traditional Malaysian food was served at the potluck. There were plenty of items to choose from: rendang, putu mayum, dhall curry, mee goreng, mee hoon goreng, kuih-muih and many more delicious items. Restaurant Kayu Manis and Masak Malaysia Take Away sponsored a dish each.

There was raffles draw to raise fund and the grand price was a complimentary dinner voucher for two at the Palms Bistro Petone valued at $70.

I like to thank all those who brought in a dish and the businesses who supported this event.

I also wish to thank the Malaysian High Commission and Wellington Malaysian Student Organisation for promoting this event.

Our appreciation goes to the Malaysian High Commissioner Dato ‘Hasnudin Hamzah and Datin for attending this event and draw the raffles. Dato’ later gave out the trophies to the winners.

We acknowledge Dato’s effort to excuse himself from his official duty and to fly in directly from Christchurch in time for the closing event. In his speech he commented the organisers for the effort and pledge his support to the NZMS activities.

Last but not the least, I like to thank the NZMS Committee members, in particular Affendi Yahya and Alan Goh for their commitment to make this event a success.

We look forward to your support for the next NZMS event - Merdeka Night on Saturday 5 Sept 09 at Johnsonville Community Centre.

Please watch the space for further details.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Selva Ramasami
President
New Zealand Malaysian Society"
